和食 Japanese food

A few weeks ago, James' company had a party
for someone being transferred to New York.
While having family members at a company party is
almost unheard of in Japan, it is rather common here.

The party was held at a Japanese restaurant in the Richmond area
Actually, it was first time for us to visit a Japanese restaurant
since we moved to San Francisco last October.
I didn't feel like having Japanese food that much,
even when James asked me.
I'd rather have other kinds of interesting food available in the city.

The restaurant we went to was just like restaurants in Japan.
All of the employees were Japanese.
There was a lot of typical Japanese food on the menu,
sushi, sashimi, grilled chicken on a stick, vegetable appetizers
and even ramen!
I felt like being in my favorite place in Tokyo.

The deep-fried Tofu dipped in sauce was especially nice!

To my astonishment, as everyone was leaving,
the waitress complained about the tip.
(Although we were not there at that time,
because we left earlier to take care of Sakura.)
The waitress demanded a 20% tip, because we were a group,
even though we gave her the usual 15% tip.
Some restaurants have a service charge for groups,
but this restaurant never mentioned it when we made reservations.

The waitress was working hard, almost alone, at the restaurant,
and she served the food without too much of a wait.
Since the tip is based on how good the service is,
I believe it should be the customer's choice.

Their food was good, price was fair.
I wanted to go there again, but maybe not.
Even Japanese need to be strong to live in this country.

When we back home, we noticed that Sakura brought all our shoes
to her bed.
It was first experience for her staying home more than 3 hours.
She seemed to be missing us.
